a nine patch in the works
Assignment:
-Create a nine patch quilt with 9 nine patch unit squares, 3 horizontal, 3 vertical
-Unit squares must be identical in design but may differ in fabric/color choices or orientation (may be flipped or rotated)
-Must be made of squares, half-square triangles, and quarter-square triangles
I have been looking at more traditional nine patch quilts but havent found many modern designs. I decided to take a more modern approach and do something abstract and these are my sketches/studies so far….

I am with you on this one.. I think that using the color as main point is the best way to go. you are off to a great start.
what I love about your other quilt is the open spaces and the wides sashing. could you integrate that into this piece too? I think it could be really interesting especially if the color of the sashing is also a color used in the blocks. . . so the lines don’t look totally grid-like, but integrate with the “blocks”.
